EAA Breakfast @ Moontown Airport
Nov 21 @ 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM

The EAA Chapter 190 Monthly Fly-in Breakfast takes place on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Breakfast is served rain or shine. This is a wonderful fundraiser project. It’s a great opportunity to learn about aviation and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). To give a little history, the EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8-17, an opportunity to fly in a general aviation airplane. These flights are free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. Flight Disclaimer: The Student’s parent/guardian must be present to sign a waiver to fly.

The BHS Band/CG provides buffet-style breakfast. There’s a wide range of folks who come out to enjoy our breakfast like Pilots and their family/friends who fly into Moontown from near and far, Boy Scout groups, and our local communities. The breakfast menu may include: Scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, grits, gravy, biscuits, fruit, orange juice, and coffee.

Volunteers are responsible for: Service line set up, cooking, replenishing the breakfast buffet items/supplies, and Cleanup. Most importantly we want to make our guests feel welcomed and we must show our appreciation for their generous donations and support.

If you are interested, please sign up through CHARMS>Calendar>Go to ****>Click on the little hand once spots are open.

Please wear comfortable tennis shoes and clothing, preferably your BHS band shirts if you still have one. It is important that we represent BHS Band/CG just at Mr. Souder expects everyone to during all events we participate in.   Even if you don’t volunteer, we want to encourage everyone to come out and support BHS Band/CG and EAA Chapter 190. The cost is $7 for Adults and $5 for Children.

New Market Christmas Parade
Dec 12 @ 1:00 PM – 2:45 PM

After speaking to the band about the New Market Christmas Parade, the desire to participate was unanimous.  It is truly a lot of fun, no pressure, and approximately a 2 hour commitment.  We hope all of our band families will come out to support and enjoy this community event, sponsored by the New Market Volunteer Fire Department!

All the information you should need is included below – please read carefully.

All Winds and Percussion are required to attend.  Any legitimate conflicts must be communicated to Mr. Souder right away.  This includes FRONT ENSEMBLE percussion who will participate in varying capacities (carrying lead banner, playing sleigh bells & cymbals, or marching in formation with the band).

Color Guard members will not be required to attend as almost all of them are participating in a Winter Guard camp that day.

Students: We will learn the simple music and practice marching a parade block a couple times during the week of the parade.  The band room will be open before call time to come get your marching instrument.

Saturday December 12th
New Market Christmas Parade @ New Market School

Students are to wear festive & warm clothing, are encouraged to dress up and decorate themselves and their instruments.  Be creative and go all out!
No glue or tape (other than electrical tape) allowed.
We will have our “best festive-dressed contest” prior to warm-up.  No one is allowed to dress in full Santa attire – parade rules.

1:00 – Call time in front of New Market School – drop off near or on College Street which runs in front of New Market School.  Park anywhere along the parade route or neighboring roads.
Per parade rules: do not park at the school.
(ACT test-takers may arrive late) – warm-up, play through music, set up parade block

2:00 – Parade begins – see link below, scroll down for parade route map – the route is short though it has been lengthened this year, and the band is typically at the beginning of the parade.

2:30-2:45 – Finish parade where we started, quick instructions, students released.

*Any student who needs to take their instrument back to the school may do so.  I will announce what time I’ll be locking up based on when we’re leaving the parade.

School-owned marching band wind instrument usage:
This will be our last marching band performance.  All students who have been using a school-owned marching band instrument (mellophones, baritones, tubas) must thoroughly clean, oil, and repair (as needed) their instrument and turn it in Monday/Tuesday next week in class.

2020 Winter Concert – Gold Gym
Dec 17 @ 7:00 PM

The Buckhorn High School Band’s 2020 Winter Concert will be Thursday, December 17th at 7:00 in the BHS Gold Gym (the main big one).  Admission is free!

*Classroom and gym event safety protocols will be employed – social distancing, masks, and 50% capacity – which leaves room to exceed our typical concert attendance.
*Please remember that students who are in-person at daily rehearsals are required to attend for a test grade.  Please communicate any safety concerns directly to me.

Our students received several exciting pieces of literature yesterday which we will study and work hard to prepare over the next month!  Students should be doing their own personal practice study regularly.

We hope you will all come and invite all of your family and friends!  The concert should last about an hour and is sure to help get us all in the spirit of the season.

Additional notes to consider:
We will not have after school rehearsal on the day of the concert. Students will be released at the bell, should get home, eat and change.
ALL STUDENTS CONCERT ATTIRE MUST BE AS PREVIOUSLY STIPULATED, including length of pants/dress – hemmed with slight break on the shoe.
Students leaders return at 4:45 to begin preparation for setting up in the gym.
Everyone else needs to return to the band room in full concert attire by 5:00, at which time we will move and set up everything in the gym (as basketball practice concludes).

Please keep in mind that we want families and friends to be able to take pictures and take the opportunity to enjoy each other’s fellowship, but students will need to take care of moving all of our chairs, stands, equipment, etc. back to the band room first.
