Football Game – Madison County (Away)

This will be the first public performance at the Varsity Football Jamboree @ Madison County High School. This is an in-county performance and so students will need to carpool. We will load the trailer DURING 4th block band class.

The call time to be AT Madison County High School is 5:00-5:30.

The reason for the window is because I know, depending on where you live and if the student rides the bus, it can be difficult to get anywhere by 5. Those who can, should. However, keep in mind that some schools start taking parking fees by 5:30, so you may have to drop off your student outside of the parking area, if the driver is not staying. Students need to eat a good dinner before arriving! We will provide water throughout the game, at away games. Water coolers will be needed at home games.

*We will not wear uniforms at the Jamboree. Instead we will wear the band shirts that are currently being distributed, khaki shorts*, and tennis shoes. We will still load the trailer completely and use the jamboree as practice for how organized we have to be for future away games and competitions when we will have 130+ students changing and unloading at the same time.

*Please note, students need to have a pair of khaki shorts. There is a wide range of khaki colors from brownish to whiteish available for cheap at WalMart, Target, Amazon. Please no cargo shorts with the large bulky pockets. The length of the khaki short must meet school dress codes. Students with shorts too short will be sent home to change and compromise their grade. This attire will also be used at the Homecoming Community Pep Rally and possibly other times.*

Football Game – Hazel Green (Home)

The Cotton Classic.

All winds and percussion MUST HAVE their PLAIN white or light gray shorts (no logos or stripes, etc.), tall white socks, and their band shirt to wear under their uniform. Anyone with long hair MUST be prepared to put their hair up high so as to fit in to the shako (hat) and abide by the other specifics outlined in the handbook.

Call time is 5:00 in the band room changing (i.e. horn polishing, eating, homework, etc. must be done by 5).

Please be sure your student has written their initials CLEARLY inside their marching shoes – these get mixed up more than anything and this simple thing saves us a lot of frustrating time. All students must also have a clean pair of our white cotton gloves which I have for sale ($3) before school and during break. Don’t forget instruments must be polished up between today and tomorrow.

Football Game – Albertville (Away)

his Friday, September 14th, we are traveling by bus to Albertville HS, loading and leaving during 4th block band class. Here are a few notes for you to help remind your student and to know our schedule. I will send a Remind text with ETA during our return drive home. (If you are not signed up for those, text @buckho to 81010 and please use your actual name to register.)

*Students must be sure to have their clean marching shoes, long white socks, uniform shorts, band shirt, clean white performance gloves, polished (and appropriately working) instrument, and all accessories when they arrive at school Friday. Again, students’ shoes must have their initials inside.

*Students need to bring money for dinner at Chik-Fil-A or Zaxby’s – buses designated with students so they know which one they’re going to. OR, students can bring a “sack dinner”.

*Students NEED TO BRING their water coolers in case Albertville does not provide waters and are encouraged to bring a couple of snacks if they feel they will need one on the ride home after the game. We will not rehearse Friday so their cooler will stay full but we will not stop on the way home.

2:00 – Loading trailer

2:45 – Loading buses

3:00 – Depart Buckhorn

4:15 – Arrive at Dinner in Guntersville (2 buses Chik-Fil-A, 1 bus Zaxby’s)

5:00 – Depart Dinner

5:20 – Arrive at Albertville HS

5:30 – Unload trailer, dress

5:50 – Warm-Ups

6:05 – Ensemble show chunks

6:30 – Cadence to stands

7:00 – Game time

~8:00 – Half time performance

~10:00 – Game over (approximate… no telling with potential game situations)

~11:00 – Depart Albertville

~Midnight – 1:00 AM – Arrive at Buckhorn

Unload trailer, take care of equipment/uniforms, etc and released after obligations met

*Finally, PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE BUCK CIRCLE OR ON THE ROAD LEADING UP TO THE CIRCLE Friday night when the band and football team are arriving back at Buckhorn. It makes it very hard or impossible for the buses to get up to the school and it is dangerous for our students who are making trips back and forth to the stadium unloading the trailer. I’ve asked the same of the football program. Please just park in the parking lots and let your student come to you. Thank you!
