Greetings 8th grade band students and parents!
We invite all 8th grade band students to come participate in the the audition clinics listed below. Our veteran student members will be participating and we are all very excited to welcome you/your students to the high school band family!
I am very glad that we will be able to do these clinics this year after having to cancel everything last year. Students will be masked and spaced throughout.
These clinics are very important, required for membership, but also very fun and low pressure!
*Students should make plans to attend all clinic dates and times but if you have a legitimate conflict, please reach out to coordinate with me, so I can ensure all students are fairly and equally instructed and assessed.
All audition clinics will be group-oriented and instructionally-based while serving to help the staff and me make important determinations. Students should initially come to the high school band room but clinics will be held between the band room, cafeteria, and possibly outside.
*Students should wear comfortable athletic clothing – shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes. We encourage bringing a water bottle but not required.
Percussion Audition Clinics:
Tuessdays – April 13, 20, 27; May 4, 11 – 3:45-5:30 each day
*During marching band, our percussion students are assigned to a specific instrument/group. These percussion audition clinics will start with fundamental instruction, gradually increasing exercises, while students move between instruments within the battery (drumline) and front ensemble (keyboards/auxiliary percussion). Students will be able to express their interest and preference while we guide them to what is best for them and the group (similar to positions on a sports team).
ALL Jazz Band and Concert Band students/parents, please read all of the following concerning the SPRING CONCERT:
This Thursday, May 20th at 7:00 is our Spring Concert at The Rock Family Worship Center’s “Dream Theatre” (enter from Holmes Avenue). We are putting final touches on the program this week – students really need to avoid missing class this week if at all possible.
DETAILS FOR STUDENTS:
On Thursday, student call time is no later than 5:00 ON STAGE, FULLY DRESSED in concert attire so we can begin sound/visual checks working backward through the program, to finish by 6:30. Don’t be late to call time and don’t walk in half-dressed.
*I am looking for student volunteers who have the ability to arrive by 4:30-4:45 to help get chairs and stands set by 5 for the full ensemble.
CHECK YOUR CONCERT ATTIRE NOW. Parents, please ensure your student’s attire is mended correctly (pant/dress length – not bunched up at the foot), and that gentlemen wear a solid white undershirt and TALL BLACK SOCKS with their tux. Ladies need closed-toed solid black flats or low heels. All hair must be neatly pulled back.
*Your dress and “look” reflects you, your family, your section, & our band, in that order. Please do your best to help us be “uniform”. It matters.
Concert location is the Gold Gym.
