INFORMATION FROM THE CONTEST HOSTS:
Contest Location –  The Stones River Championship will be held in Ken Nolan Stadium on the campus of Siegel High School located at 3300 Siegel Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
Spectator Info – Tickets will be available at each of the 3 gates leading into Ken Nolan Stadium. Prices are $15 ($16 if paying with credit card) with children 10 and under getting in for free. Contest programs will be available for $2 each. Credit/debit cards will be accepted at a designated gate.
Contest apparel – Official contest t-shirts and apparel are available for purchase at the event. Prices for contest apparel starts at $18 and all items are fully customizable.
Rain Plan – In the event of rain or any other kind of inclement weather, the contest administrators will make one of 2 calls depending on the length and severity of the weather. Option A will be a weather delay, in which bands would be allowed into the school or back to their buses until the contest is allowed to resume. Option B will move the contest indoors for the remainder of the day. Warm-up areas would be transferred to the auxiliary gym and/or cafeteria and the main contest will be held in the Main Gym. The contest would convert to a “Music Only” format with all qualified judges still providing voice recorded feedback. We ask for all bands, directors, and spectators to be patient with us as we work to still make the contest successful. In the event of inclement weather after Preliminary competition, the Contest Directors reserve the right to cancel the Finals performances and hand out awards based on Preliminary scores.

Buckhorn High School’s Veteran’s Day Program will be in the Gold Gym.  We invite all of our parents to attend, especially our band parents and relatives who are active or veteran military.  The band, choir, ROTC, and dance team will all perform.  This is a very special event.  It will take place during 1st and 2nd block.

Community Pep Rally
Oct 18 @ 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

The annual Homecoming Community Pep Rally on the Band/Soccer field is always Thursday evening before the Homecoming game.  Our band gets to perform the show for the community and other school groups in attendance and there are other performances with lots of other school groups set up all across the field.  It’s a great tradition that brings together the community for a couple of hours.

We will have after school rehearsal as usual, until 5:30.  At the conclusion of rehearsal, we will have dinner.  Boosters will grill hamburgers and hotdogs, etc. – information about volunteers needed for this will be sent out soon.  The event itself kicks off at 6:30, at which time students will need to be set up for the pep rally to begin.  It typically lasts no more than an hour and a half, maybe shorter, but I expect students to be free to go by 8:00

Marching Band Competition – JSU, AL
Oct 20 all-day

Our next competition will be at JSU on Saturday, October 20th.  Like other contests, this will be a full day engagement.  Specifics about the itinerary will be shared the week before or early the week of but it will be likely be similar to the last contest.  This is not a prelims/finals contest so we will perform once but the schedule of bands may be longer and our students will get to see the JSU Marching Southerners perform.  (We have lots of Buckhorn Band graduates in the JSU band!)  I highly encourage parents to attend this competition, especially if you’ve not been before.  Our show is evolving and greatly improving even in just one day yesterday!

Alabama State Marching Band Championships @ Muscle Shoals High School
Nov 3 all-day
Alabama State Marching Band Championships @ Muscle Shoals High School | Muscle Shoals | Alabama | United States

BHSMB Schedule:

*Attached is a schedule of the entire day so you can see who else is competing and who is in our 6A class.  Band classification at this contest is based on the school size (pertaining to AHSAA – athletic governing body), not the band size (which is typically based on winds +/- percussion).

11:00 AM – Eat a good healthy lunch and HYDRATE (when the weather cools off, we usually neglect our hydration)

12:00 PM – Call time for trailer load

1:00 – Depart BHS

3:00 – Arrival

3:15 – Dinner – I am currently working with MSHS Band Parents to coordinate 1 or 2 dinner options ($5 pizza (2 slices) & drink will be at least one).  I will take an initial tally by the end of the week and need to collect $$ Monday.  As always, bringing your own meal is always an option.  If a student doesn’t pay ahead of time, they will not be able to pay on the spot since MSHS Band Parents will be ordering only what we tally.  Therefore, if a student doesn’t pay Monday with me, he/she will need to bring their own meal.  We will eat in their cafeteria.

4:15 – Unload & Dress

5:00 – Physical Warm-Up

5:50 – Official Warm-Up

6:25 – Leave Warm-Up, travel to stadium

6:40 – BHSMB puts on their best performance ever!

7:00 – Return to trailer to change and load

*It will be quite cold after our performance so students need to be prepared to change in to warm clothes for the cold.  If possible, we encourage students to wear Buckhorn blue items.

7:30 – Snack bags and water

8:00 – Travel to stadium to observe final bands / visit shirt vendors, etc.

9:15 – Awards Ceremony (Drum Major only)

~10:15 – Load buses & Depart MSHS for home

~12:30 – 1:00 AM – Arrive at BHS (Remind text ETAs will be sent)

*As always, students will unload and be dismissed after we arrive back at school

Huntsville Havoc Game Performance
Nov 16 @ 5:00 PM

Huntsville Havoc Game Performance.  This event is an easy and fun performance for our students and will constitute another promotional opportunity as tickets will be made available for you to sell and you will get up to $5 back on each ticket sold.  We will perform in front of the arena during pre-game, then enter and perform the National Anthem for the event, and then perform in the stands between periods.  More details about this event will be disseminated as the event approaches.

Dress code for the game will be BHS Band navy top (I would wear band jacket) or anything navy, jeans and/or navy toboggans.
Call time is in VBC arena lobby between 5:15-5:30pm.  Students please only bring money, lip balm, and instrument.  It is an early call time, but due to VBC security protocols, everyone must enter through security portals which takes a few minutes to process almost 140 students. General public doors open at 5:45pm.  Any student arriving at VBC after 5:45pm will have to enter with general public and risk not playing the National Anthem.
We will be allowed to play stand tunes once we get set up in the stands and once the doors are opened to the general public.    We will be playing until 6:30pm or until pre-game warmups begin. This will be a good time for a restroom break. We will play the National Anthem at 7:00pm.  There will be an optional drum line opportunity to play at the first break.
I know there are some parents that are picking up Poinsettias at RES gym on Friday from 4:30-6:00pm.  We will have the poinsettias set up and will try to expedite the distribution as quickly as possible so you can get your student to the VBC.
If you need help getting your child to the VBC, please start asking for carpool assistance now.  You can also ask on the BHS Band FB page.
***We need about three parent volunteers that don’t mind being late or are not going to the Havoc game on Friday to help with Poinsettia distribution.  It should roughly take 30 minutes. Helpers, please arrive around 4:15-:4:20pm.  Thank you in advance for those that can assist. Just reply back if you can help.
Everyone is free to come and go after playing the National Anthem.  I would encourage you to stay until after first break to enjoy the game and show the Havoc some BHS Band spirit.  Students, you must have a designated driver in place (meaning waiting on you in the parking lot) before you leave the VBC. You are responsible for yourself.  Please remain inside lobby until your ride arrives.
Since there will not be any chaperones assigned to this event, just a friendly reminder to everyone to be on your best behavior and show them what AWESOMENESS looks like!
It’s also “Death By Cheese NIght” in the concession stands.  This means, they will have cheese on just about everything. So bring extra cash and try something new, with cheese. Let me know how it tastes or let me sample! 🙂
There is a $5 fee (cash only) to park in the VBC garage across the street from the arena.  I’m not sure how much parking is in adjacent lots to the VBC.  The garage across from the arena has the easiest access.
