marching band
Comprised of about 150 members, the Buckhorn High School Marching Band is an award-winning ensemble that consistently earns superior ratings each year. This ensemble, which is held in the Fall, combines music and movement to create an awe-inspiring and competitive marching show performed in stadiums for football games and marching competitions throughout the Southeast each year. Along with the woodwinds, brass, and percussion, parts of the Buckhorn Marching band include a color guard, whose colorful flag work and choreography help to create an overall aesthetic experience throughout the show, and student drum majors who lead and conduct the band throughout the season.
The marching band rehearses each day during school, as well as one or more times a week in the afternoon or evening. There is not an “official” audition for the Buckhorn High School Marching Band. However, typically, prerequisite for musician membership includes at least a year enrolled in a band program, as well as demonstrated adequate musical proficiency. Auditions for color guard, percussion placements, and all student leaders, including drum majors, occur at the end of Spring semester in preparation for Summer and Fall.
