Buckhorn High School Student Leadership Information and Responsibilities The Buckhorn High School Band is built on student leadership to help increase productivity and responsibility of each students. The positions are selected each year by the band director the year before or are chosen by tryouts. (Color Guard Captain and Drum Major) Any student has the possibility to be a leader, and when chosen, they are asked to fulfill their responsibilities to their best ability. Students are to show the band leaders respect and obey consequences although no formal punishment can be presented. Being a leader is a privilege, the leaders main responsibility is to keep the line of communication between the director and the other students. Below is a list of each position, and their responsibilities. All Student Leaders Must:
- Enforce all band rules, and give consequences. (No Formal Punishment)
- Help when the director is absent.
- Represent the band at all times.
- Be an example to all students, band members or not.
- Help the Booster Parents with any project, fundraiser, or activity.
- Assist the director when called upon.
- Be a leader when the band director is present or absent.
- Follow through with assignments in a timely manner, asking for help if needed.
- Be respectful of your position by being responsible and fulfilling the duties presented.
- Make announcements to sections or students when asked.
- Report Major problems to the director.
- Attend all Student Leader meetings.
Drum Major- Selected by a panel of judges after tryouts in the spring. - Enforce rules during marching rehearsals.
- Direct and control the band during marching season.
- Assist Section Leaders with Sectionals.
- Maintain order when the director is not present.
- Conduct and control the band at all pep rallies, Buck walks, football games, and any other performances.
- Assist the director and be his “right hand man/women” during marching season.
Section Leader- Selected by director in the spring to lead a specific section. - Lead sectionals and after school sections. (All after school sections must be approved by the director.)
- Issue out and collect music.
- Maintain order in your section on the field and in the stands.
- Take daily attendance, and make sure students make up missing time.
- Inspect section uniforms during marching season.
- Issue and collect paper work.
- Answer any questions students in your section may have.
Band Leader- Selected by the director in the spring to lead the students of the band. - Keep the communication between students, band parents, and director.
- Help Section Leaders and Drum major with sectionals.
- Help with uniform inspections.
- Check Section Leaders Attendance.
- Clean up after any band function.
Librarian- Selected by the director in the spring to keep the library. - File and pull music at all times.
- Keep the library in top condition.
- Handout and collect music.
- Make copies when necessary.
- Keep all music updated in Charms.
Loading Crew-Selected by the director in the spring to help manage loading and unloading equipment. - Arrive 30 minutes prior to set up for events.
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to each event to load and unload equipment when traveling.
