Pete Valentine opened the meeting with Congratulations on a successful Marching Competition season. We would like to thank Mr. Raney, Ms. Durobrow, the parents and students for making in a great year! Pete also presented an tentative schedule.

Calendar of events

  • Senior photos will be retaken at 5 in the band room on Friday, October 23.
  • Homecoming is Friday October 23.  Call time is at 6 in the band room. (Students will have a brief rehearsal Wednesday or Thursday after school to run through their Homecoming program.  The weather affects which day they stay after school for this rehearsal.  Rehearsal should last about 30 minutes.)
  • Calendar sales have been extended.  Students may continue to take orders for calendars.  There were 200 extra calendars ordered for students to sale and get out more publicity in the public eye. Calendars sell for $5, the profit margin is double.  Please help get these out into the public.  This is one of our more profitable fundraisers!
  • There is a JV game scheduled for October 26.  Work time for students that sign up is from 4-9 in the concessions stand.
  • Clay Chalkville game has been moved to Thursday, October 29.  Call time is 2 in the band room.  The students will be returning to the school around midnight, so Mr. Ledbetter has permitted them to come in right after 1st block with an excused tardy.
  • Pecans Sale will begin on November 1.  We are just waiting the approval to go ahead and get started.
  • There will be a Veteran’s Day concert at BHS again this year.  Final date has not been set, keep watching the website for date and time.  Encourage any veterans you know to attend.
  • Moontown breakfast on November 21.  IF you’re working, be there from 6-10.  Due to the weather the last two breakfast have not been as successful as expected.  Please take this into consideration when funds are put into your accounts.  They should be put in CHARMS in mid-December so you can check the status of your accounts.
  • Christmas Concert will be held in Gold Gym at 6:30 on December 14, 2009.  This concert will include BHS, Riverton Middle, and New Market.  Mr. Raney has been successful with the New Market Beginner Band this year, involving 6th grade.  They have now asked him to work with interested 7th graders as well.  The future of the band program at BHS is very promising.  There has been a reputation established for Buckhorn Band and a high quality of expectations.
  • There will likely be a Christmas Parade in New Market.  The time and date will be announced as soon as Mr. Raney hears from the Fire Dept.
  • Next Booster meeting is December 7, 2009 at 6:30 in the band room.
  • The Purple Potty is a continuous fundraiser.  Be getting together a “holiday list”  of those you’d like to receive this wonderful gift.

Ordering Concert Attire can be done through the website buckhornband.com. Go to the FAQ tab and look for a question involving concert attire.  There will be a link to Stage Accents to show you the specific dress that should be ordered for the girls and a standard tux for the boys.  These come unhemmed! It is suggested that you order by the 2nd week in November at the latest.  This will give you time to have the item altered  and to return/exchange the item if necessary.  Some parents have had success using bandshoppe.com to order their tux items.  The cost is about the same either place.

Budget

We are operating a little under budget as of right now.  The concession stand has not pulled in as much profit as normal,  largely due to weather.  Please take this into consideration when concession funds are posted into CHARMS in mid-December.  We currently have $4,400 in the account.  We have purchased $4,700 of new equipment, plus $2,200 of other payments due.  We have $6,100 in the concession fund right now. There are still approximately 9 people with outstanding band fees. Please get those payment in ASAP.  Fall fees were set at $385. So, if you do not plan on doing much fundraising this year, partial payments really help carry the band along with it’s expenses until spring semester.  Please be making partial payments into your student’s account if you are not fundraising!!

Family Fun Night

A planning committee needs to be established in getting started with this event.  It was lots of fun last year and very successful.  It includes a silent auction, talent competition (last year in the form of Guitar Hero), dinner, carnival games, prizes, etc.  This is a big fundraiser for the Spring.  It takes a lot of parent involvement!  Please contact Ed Martin if you’d like to be on the planning committee.  A tentative date of March 6th was mentioned at the meeting.  Please notify any of the officers if you are aware of other major conflicting events in this area or related to the school’s calendar.  We like to try to choose a date with as little conflict as possible, to encourage attendance.

The meeting was attended by approximately 25.  There was great discussion and some final decisions made.  Please come on December 7th to be a part of the next meeting!
